STICH – Science and Technology in Cultural Heritage

Écoles d'été et d'hiver franco-allemandes

2011

CNRS Paris - HZ Berlin für Materialien und Energie

New approaches in tomography, imaging, Terahertz spectroscopy, elemental and molecular analysis using photons, neutrons and ions at large scale facilities are on the way increasingly being used in cultural heritage research. It is the aim of this summer school to build a bridge between the natural scientists developing these methods and the cultural heritage scientists realizing and learning about the potential of these techniques for a better understanding of the authenticity of works of art and irreplaceable cultural documents and for helping to preserve them.
In this context France and Germany play a significant role, partly because of the large number of collections and museums, and partly because of the push in technology presently under way especially in these two countries, often with strong European support (e.g. Intense x-ray sources and the Extreme Light Initiative ELI).

Cette Ecole d’été est cofinancée par l’Ambassade de France à Berlin.
