Non-coding genome
Wissenschaftliche Veranstaltungen für wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs (Forschungsateliers, Sommerschulen)
2024 - 2024
Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg - Institut Curie
The NON-CODING GENOME workshop has been organized every year since 2012 in partnership with the Institut Curie and Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg for Master and PhD students and young postdoctoral researchers in biology and medical studies. It provides an overview of the impact of the non-coding part of the genome, for long considered as junk DNA, on the life of the cell and an organism, as well as its use in biotechnology (CRISPR, RNAi) and clinics with RNA as a biomarker, therapeutic target, therapeutic agent, or vaccine. More than twenty internationally renowned scientists present their latest discoveries relating to the identification and functional characterization of new non-coding RNA genes, non-gene DNA elements such as mobile elements and telomeres, and discuss new concepts in genome regulation and evolution, focusing on experimental and computational tools. Young participants also take part in round-table discussions and debate with professionals on career development, communication, scientific integrity, and the place of women in research. This workshop is a unique event open to young students and researchers taking their first steps in research. It offers them the opportunity to present their work to peers in a warm and stimulating environment of the Institut Curie in Paris, to network and make contacts with well-established researchers for future projects.
